Shantykoor de Rundezangers will hold their annual concert in Emmer-Compascuum on Saturday.
The choir, led by conductor Jan Platje, has rehearsed new songs especially for this evening. The program includes Dutch, German, English and of course also Drenthe songs.

The concert starts at 8 p.m., doors open at 7 p.m. A ticket costs 7 euros.

On Saturday, wild picking guide Leah Groeneweg gives an edible wild plant walk along part of the new food path in Borger. Together you look for the edible wild plants that grow here. You will learn which plants are edible, what to look for when picking and how to use them. Dandelion, nettle, trot and plantain appear to be healthy ingredients for a delicious meal. The verge, the field and your backyard will never be the same again.

After the walk there is time for a cup of self-picked wild herbal tea and a cake at the Hunebedcentrum.

In De Nieuwe Kolk (DNK) in Assen, the preview of the Book Week is on Saturday evening: BoekenFEST ’23.

Columnist, writer, theater maker and musician Nico Dijkshoorn opens the BoekenFEST’23 together with his band The Hank Five. During his performance, Dijkshoorn discusses his book ‘Almost on the radio’. During her performance, writer Judith Koelemeijer takes you into the story of the Dutch-Jewish Etty Hillesum, about whom she wrote a biography. Finally, singer-songwriter and writer Tim Knol gives you an insight into the life of a musician and talks about his book ‘Light years better’.

In addition to the performances by the writers, there are all kinds of activities in the atmospheric Theatercafé. The evening will conclude with a performance by The Hank Five.

The brass band of the Salvation Army will give a concert in Emmen and Hoogeveen on Saturday and Sunday. The band consists of musicians from corps of the Salvation Army from the Northern Netherlands region, supplemented by a number of sympathizers. A number of typical Salvation Army compositions will be played, but also a number of pieces specially written for this concert. Including the pieces of music ‘From Ancient Times’ and ‘A Selection of Negro Spirituals’, written by Henry J. Huisjes.

Sunday afternoon you can take a look at the LOFAR area. Expert guides are ready to explain the nature and technology that go hand in hand here. They tell about the operation of the largest radio telescope in the world and about the most special flora and fauna that can be found here. A unique opportunity because on other days the area is not open to the public. This afternoon is suitable for adults.

Registration for this afternoon is not necessary. The guides are present from 13:30 to 17:00.
