The collision took place on Saturday just before 9 a.m. near the police station along Lodewijk Coiseaukaai. A dark 4×4 collided with the moped rider in unprecedented circumstances. The latter was severely injured by the impact. An ambulance and mosquito team rushed to the scene to give the man first aid. He was eventually taken to hospital for treatment. The victim was seriously injured, police said. An investigation is underway to determine exactly how the accident could have happened. Due to the collision, only traffic in the direction of Dudzele was possible in Havenstraat.
