Within two years in the FC Bayern jersey, Michael Olise has developed into possibly the best winger in the world. The French international has long been at the top of the transfer wish list at clubs like Real Madrid and Liverpool FC. His national coach sees the 24-year-old in good hands on Säbener Straße.

Michael Olise has made an “incredible development in recent years,” enthused France’s head coach Didier Deschamps: “With us on the French national team it was a bit difficult at the beginning, arduous. But with persistence and support he developed. Today Michael is one of the best players in the world, but media presence is not his thing. The playing field is important to him, that’s what he wants his life to be.”

The 24-year-old, who moved from Crystal Palace to Munich in 2024, has been doing excellently with this rather unconventional approach so far. Last season, the offensive man contributed a sensational 53 goals in 52 competitive games to the record champions’ double season. On his World Cup debut on Tuesday, Olise was voted player of the match.

FC Bayern: Big praise for Vincent Kompany too

So it’s no wonder that the wing car, which is under contract at Säbener Strasse until 2029, has long been on the competition’s wish list. Real Madrid, in particular, are said to be trying to get the London-born player, whom FC Bayern has recently repeatedly declared as not for sale. Even offers beyond the 200 million sound barrier couldn’t change that.

Deschamps doesn’t see it as necessary for his protégé to change. “Coach Vincent Kompany also played a huge role in Michael’s rise to fame. He played an excellent season under him, with efficiency, character and personality,” praised the 2018 world champion coach of the Belgian trainer of the German industry leader.

The 57-year-old is therefore certain: Olise “will continue to be very good if he stays at FC Bayern.”
