Drenthe has offered the government, in consultation with municipalities and housing associations, to build thirteen thousand homes in the province over the next eight years. The supply is a result of the housing shortage in our country and the agreements that the government has made with the provinces to solve this problem. If it is up to the cabinet, 900,000 additional homes will be built throughout the country by 2030.
Deputy Hans Kuipers of the province of Drenthe and Minister Hugo de Jonge of Housing and Spatial Planning (VRO) have now approved and signed the Drenthe offer. In June of this year, the province already submitted a proposal to the government, after which it was examined whether the plans were feasible and what possible bottlenecks are. This resulted in the offer of thirteen thousand homes, which the government will support in its realization.
Kuipers says that 18,800 homes are also feasible by 2030, provided the government provides extra support. “This concerns, for example, contributions to unprofitable peaks and other preconditions, such as good access by road and rail.”
Drenthe already made an offer with Groningen, Friesland, Overijssel and Flevoland via the Delta Plan of the North to jointly realize 220,000 homes, but then the provinces would like the Lelylijn to be built. If it is up to the province of Drenthe, the capacity on the track between Zwolle and Meppel must also be increased. And the Lower Saxony line, which is to connect the northeast of the Netherlands, is still on the wish list of the province.
If the government decides to make additional investments, 45,000 homes can also be built in Drenthe in the long term.
Minister De Jonge asks the province to make regional performance agreements with municipalities and housing associations. The aim is to make sixty percent of homes for sale in each region, of which thirty percent must consist of rental homes. In Drenthe, there are three regions in which the houses are to be built.
These performance agreements must be signed by the end of this year.
