Three weeks after the start of training preparations for the new season in the volleyball league, the Berlin Volleys are playing their first two friendlies.
The opponents of the German champions are Bundesliga rivals Grizzlys Giesen on Thursday (4.30 p.m., Horst-Korber-Zentrum) and Friday (3.30 p.m., Sportforum).
In both matches, in which no spectators are allowed for organizational reasons, only ten players from the 13-strong squad are available for the volleys. The World Cup participants Ruben Schott, Cody Kessel and Saso Stalekar are missing. The Berlin team is coached by assistant coach Lucio Oro. Head coach Cedric Enard is enjoying an extended vacation.
In the coming season, the BR Volleys have to shoulder the demanding task of compensating for the loss of their two most valuable players, Sergej Grankin for the pass and Benjamin Patch in the diagonal attack.
The next two volleyball test games have already been scheduled. On September 8th and 9th, the Horst-Korber-Zentrum will play against the Champions League permanent guest Knack Roeselare from Belgium.
