Club Brugge can’t win against stiff Zulte Waregem either
After more than five minutes, Jean-Luc Dompé did not punish a bad pass from Owen Otasowie to Denis Odoi. Face to face with Simon Mignolet, he saw his marker ball bounce. A few moments later, Sammy Bossut intervened attentively on the other side of Ferran Jutgla, who was unable to finish a pass from Hans Vanaken.
Otasowie thanks Mignolet
Otasowie let himself be ringed again soon afterwards and again Mignolet saved Dompé, this time on a corner kick. In the fifteen minutes, Casper Nielsen’s first goal from Bruges stranded in the side net. No goals were scored in the remainder of the first half. Mignolet came to the rescue of Otasowie again a handful of minutes from half-time after poor control.
Again Skov Olsen
It was quickly 1-0 in the second half. Andreas Skov Olsen, Hans Vanaken and Kamal Sowah combined their way through the heart of the visiting defence. Skov Olsen gave Bossut twice the score with his third league goal of the still fledgling season. The Dane is one of the only players at Club Brugge who is at the right level.
Subtle Ball Key
Despite a more dominant game, the team from Bruges swallowed the equalizer with a quarter game to go: Oleksandr Drambayev outsmarted Mignolet with a subtle touch of the ball. Club’s final offensive came to nothing. Substitute Noa Lang wanted to surprise Bossut with an attempt in the short corner, but found the side net in his way.
Program
On Saturday there are four meetings on the program in the Belgian highest football division. Racing Genk already plays host to Eupen at 4 pm. At 6.15 pm Charleroi and KV Oostende look each other in the eye at Mambourg, while at the same time KV Kortrijk is playing a match in the Guldenspoor Stadium in Sint-Truiden. Vice champion Union Sint-Gillis makes the move to KV Mechelen, which wants to take its first point(s) of the season.
There will be four more confrontations on Sunday. Sclessin is the stage for the game between Standard and Cercle Brugge at 1.30 pm. AA Gent receives PhD candidate Westerlo (4:00 PM), while RSC Anderlecht, after last weekend’s defeat against Cercle with Seraing, are given a bite-sized chunk for their own people (6:30 PM). Antwerp and OH Leuven, the only two teams that have not lost any points after two match days, will close the third round at the Bosuil at 9 p.m., with the leading position at stake.
