The Eredivisie starts again: three questions for the club watchters of PSV and RKC

PSV and RKC start a new season in the Eredivisie on Saturday evening. Where PSV would like to become champion again, the Waalwijkers want to stay away from the lower regions. Our club watchers tell you what they expect from the coming season.

What is the goal and will the club achieve it?
PSV watcher Yannick Wezenbeek: “PSV wants to become champion again and thus qualify directly for the Champions League. It also seems that the selection is stronger than last season. The biggest competitor will again come from Amsterdam this year. The differences are still there from a budgetary point of view Where PSV hires a defender from Everton, Ajax gets a central defender for 20 million euros who played the final of the Europa League last season.”

“In addition, the net also made it to Steven Bergwijn and Brian Brobbey for large amounts. This makes Ajax the big favorite and I fear that PSV will just fall short. But as a famous Amsterdam football player once said: I have never seen a goal with a bag of money. to make.”

RKC watcher Luuk van Grinsven: “The goal of RKC is simple: the Waalwijkers want to maintain themselves in the Eredivisie for the fourth season in a row. This season promises to have an exciting relegation battle. You can name nine teams that can finish in the bottom three. .”

“That’s why I think that, just like last season, it will be very close at the bottom. I personally estimate RKC, both in football and in terms of selection, slightly higher than the competition. I think Joseph Oosting will get the renewed team up and running fairly quickly. A tenth place just like last season seems a bit too enthusiastic, but I think RKC will make it in the end.”

Which player will be important this season?
Wezenbeek: “I expect a lot from Walter Benitez this season. After years of uncertainties in goal, PSV finally has a strong goalkeeper on which they can build. The Argentinian will take many points for the Eindhoven team.”

Van Grinsven: “Due to the departure of tastemaker Jens Odgaard, RKC had to look for a worthy replacement. They found that replacement at Arsenal: Mika Biereth. The 19-year-old striker, also a Dane, is seen as a great opportunity.”

Where should the club further strengthen?
Wezenbeek: “Now that Noni Madueke has been injured and will not be in action until the winter break, it seems that PSV will get another attacker. The fact that they only took three real attackers to Monaco indicates that the wash in the front is still thin. Given the busy schedule, something needs to be added in width.”

Van Grinsven: “After a very strong season, Meulensteen and Touba could no longer be kept for RKC. Due to the departure of the two center defenders, the rinse is thin in the defense. Especially in the center, RKC does not have that many options, the club even has more goalkeepers (4) than central defenders (3).”

“At least one central defender seems to me to be a welcome reinforcement for RKC. On other lines I think that Joseph Oosting’s team is as good as complete.”
