The plot against America: where were we
Newark, 1940. The election campaign for the election of the next president of the United States sees Democrat Franklin Delano Roosevelt face off, eager to be re-elected, and Republican Charles Lindbergh (Ben Cole), became famous thanks to a solitary crossing on the Atlantic.
The man, symbol for Americans, however, has great sympathies for Hitler. Which in Europe, after the invasion of Poland in 1939, is continuing to invade nations.

The effect of the aviator’s policies they speak out about the Levin Jewish family, witness of growing anti-Semitism and social tension with which Lindbergh it is transforming the United States of America into a country ally of the Nazis. Herman (Morgan Spector), the head of the family, is incredulous at first; but he soon discovers that life outside his neighborhood it starts to get difficult, for him and for the entire Jewish community.

A few months have passed since he took office in the White House, and there is a heavy air in the nation. Although anti-Semitic attacks are on the rise and Bess (Zoe Kazan) pushes to move family to Canada – where so many American Jews are moving -, Herman decides to take his family on vacation to Washington. Where the worries of the wife will be more than founded.
At the suggestion of Aunt Evelyn, Sandy (Caleb Malis) decides to participate in a government program, devised by Bengelsdorf, which has as its goal one greater integration of young Jews into the social fabric of “real America”. And so the boy goes to live in Kentucky.

Evelyn and Bengelsdorf, now a steady couple, they receive an invitation from the First Lady at an official state dinner, to which Nazi Foreign Minister Von Ribbentrop will also be present. A presence that further cements the nascent bond between Germany and an America that is still formally neutral.
Meanwhile, Sandy returned from his Kentucky experience it becomes the face of the political campaign waged by the collaborationist rabbi; Bess, more and more worried, she still hopes her husband will agree to move to Canada. But maybe it’s too late now.
