Ukraine coach Petrakov dedicates victory to his compatriots

With a convincing victory in Scotland, Ukraine has reached the final of the European World Cup playoffs. At the moment of success, national coach Petrakov immediately thought of those who couldn’t be with the team in Glasgow.

Coach Oleksandr Petrakov dedicated the victory of the Ukrainian national soccer team in the semifinals for the last European World Cup ticket to his compatriots in the war-torn homeland.

“This win doesn’t belong to me or the players. It’s for our country. It’s a big win for Ukraine,” said the coach after the 3-1 (1-0) win over Scotland in Glasgow: “The win is for them Armed forces in the trenches and the people who work in the hospitals. They thank us – and we thank them.”

The final hurdle for Ukraine before they reach the finals in Qatar (21 November-18 December) is the play-off final in Cardiff against hosts Wales on Sunday.
