It will be increasingly warmer in Brabant in the coming days. Friday is expected to be the hottest day of the week. The temperature can then rise to 35 degrees in some places in the province. It could reach 32 degrees on Thursday. That is why the National Heat Plan will come into effect throughout the country from ten o’clock on Thursday. The RIVM decided this on Wednesday after consultation with the KNMI.

The heat plan is intended as a warning for people who are at extra risk in hot weather, such as the elderly, young children and people who are ill for a long time. They may suffer from dehydration or overheating more quickly. The elderly are especially vulnerable, because they are less able to regulate their body temperature and become thirsty less quickly.

Pregnant women, homeless people and overweight people can also be extra sensitive to heat. The RIVM is calling everyone who cares for vulnerable people to pay close attention to them.

Code yellow
Due to the heat, code yellow applies throughout the country on Thursday and Friday, except for the Wadden Islands. According to the KNMI, there is a chance of persistently warm weather, with high humidity and warm nights.

During the weekend it remains very warm, especially in the southeast of the country. On Monday, temperatures across the country will probably rise again to above 30 degrees.

Drink enough
The RIVM advises people to drink enough and avoid exercise at the hottest time of the day. It is better to exercise early in the morning or at the end of the day. It also helps to keep curtains closed and provide cooling, for example with a fan.
