A 61-year-old man from Sweden was sentenced to four years and five months in prison on Tuesday for forcing his wife to prostitute herself to at least 120 men. This was announced by the Ångermanland court, which spoke of “ruthless exploitation”.

The man was found guilty of “serious pimping”, attempted rape, assault and threats, according to a press release from the court. In addition to the prison sentence, he must pay the woman compensation totaling 200,000 Swedish crowns (about 18,000 euros).

“We have established that the man persuaded and forced his wife to perform sexual acts on himself, broadcast them online, receive ‘clients’ and try to induce others to have sex with her,” said Judge Johan Ahlberg. Public prosecutor Ida Annerstedt had asked for ten years in prison for the man.

“Helped”

According to the Swedish newspaper ‘Dagens Nyheter’, the sixty-year-old was a former member of the Hells Angels motorcycle club. He continued to insist during interrogations that he simply “helped” his wife to prostitute herself. He had managed her advertisements on the Internet, booking clients and planning which sex acts would be performed. According to the indictment, he also arranged the price and payment, transported the woman and supervised meetings with customers.

Escape

The investigation began last year after the woman was able to escape from the house where she lived with her husband. They lived on a remote farm, where the woman was held and abused. The man was arrested in October 2025, after she reported him to the police. At the start of the trial in April, prosecutor Annerstedt had stated that the woman had a “deep fear” of her husband.

120 ‘customers’ identified

During the investigation, which uncovered payments, chat history and ‘bookings’, around 120 ‘customers’ were identified. On this basis, 29 people were prosecuted and 28 convicted. Two of them have been sentenced to prison. In several of the cases that did not result in prosecution, the statute of limitations had expired.

Pelicot case

The case has caused quite a stir in Sweden and is reminiscent of the Pelicot case in France.
