A soldier from the 43 Mechanized Brigade from Havelte was injured during the Fighter Lion exercise in Munster, Germany. This happened during a collision between a Boxer armored vehicle and a Fennek reconnaissance wheeled vehicle.
Another soldier from 13 Light Brigade from Oirschot was also injured.
Medical responders were deployed immediately after the accident. Civilian emergency services have also been alerted. The soldiers involved were treated on site and subsequently transferred to a hospital for further medical care. The injured soldiers were not in danger of death and had informed their loved ones themselves, the Ministry of Defense said on their website.
The Royal Military Police is investigating the circumstances of the incident.
With approximately 7,000 soldiers, Fighter Lion is the largest exercise of the Royal Netherlands Army in 2026. During the exercise, units in the Netherlands and Germany train how to operate in a large-scale conflict.
The deployment of new technologies, drones, artillery, command and control and logistical and medical support are central. The exercise continues and will last until early July.
