In the United States, a 31-year-old man was arrested on charges of defrauding a tire dealer and a garage after purchasing car tires with fake or stolen credit cards. The episode occurred in St. Louis, Missouri, in the second half of November 2023, according to what was reconstructed by the police and according to what the court documents filed by the district attorney report. The total value of illegally stolen tires exceeds 31 thousand dollars.

According to what emerges from the charging documents and from the images of the surveillance cameras which filmed him signing the payment receipts on at least one occasion, even before the transaction could be refused, the man used to load the tires purchased onto a truck linked to his previous work and drive away. Once these operations were completed, all payments were rejected by a third-party payment company. The St. Louis district attorney’s office then charged him with aggravated theft, a class C crime which in the US judicial system carries a sentence ranging from three to ten years, confirming his pre-trial detention with a bail set at $31,109.17, equal to the value of the stolen goods, paid for in cash, and which was followed by the application of the electronic bracelet and the ban on approaching the defrauded retailers, pending the resolution of the case. The 31-year-old has not yet pleaded guilty or innocent.
