So far, only Mercedes drivers have taken pole position in Formula 1 2026. That doesn’t change in Barcelona either.

George Russell secured pole position in Barcelona and will start from the front in the race on Sunday (3 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online). Lewis Hamilton took second place on the starting grid.

Qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix was overshadowed by a crash involving Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc. In the final qualifying run, Q3, the Monegasse crashed head-on into the barriers in turns four and five. The run had to be stopped for around ten minutes.
