The Municipality of Rome has announced the start of the bureaucratic process to transform the historic facility into the new Biancoceleste home
Now it’s official. On May 28th, next Thursday, the preliminary services conference will begin to analyze the redevelopment, modernization and expansion project of the Flaminio stadium. The Municipality of Rome announced it with a note. The project in question is the one drawn up by Lazio which intends to transform the stadium built by Pierluigi Nervi for the 1960 Olympics into its own facility. After months of debates and a project (presented in Formello last February) which required a long incubation, the process to transform the Flaminio, once renovated and expanded, into Lazio’s new home is now underway. The Services Conference is a fundamental, indeed decisive, step to overcome for the project to be successful. It will last a few weeks and will have the task of analyzing in detail all the critical issues connected to the project and, above all, its possible conflict with the legislation that regulates the matter (the Flaminio has been declared an architectural asset and, as such, is subject to the relevant constraints). In the first meeting, on Thursday, the sole manager of the project, together with the Lazio technicians, will illustrate the project to the competent offices of the Campidoglio.

There is no shortage of difficulties to overcome, but there is still a climate of moderate optimism. Meanwhile, the first official step has been taken. “The recovery and redevelopment of the Flaminio – said the mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri – represent a priority for this administration because we are talking about a symbolic place of the city that deserves to be brought back to life (it is currently in a state of decay and abandonment, ed.). The launch of the preliminary services conference is an important step: now the competent bodies will carry out all the necessary technical assessments”. Alessandro Onorato, councilor for major events, sport, tourism and fashion, also expressed his satisfaction, also specifying the next stages of the process: “This first phase will be technical, not political. The experts from the 39 bodies involved will be called upon to give their opinion. The time required by the procedure is 45 days, with a further 30 days for any additions. In the event of a positive outcome, the project must then receive the declaration of public interest, first from the Council, then of the Capitoline Assembly. Subsequently, Lazio will have to develop the technical-economic feasibility project, which will have to acquire the opinions in a decision-making conference of the services. At that point there will be the final approval resolution”.
