1. FC Nürnberg has presented its third newcomer for the coming season. Giannis Masouras comes to the club from Omonia Nicosia. The 29-year-old right-back is moving to Nuremberg on a free transfer because his contract with the Cypriot champions ends in the summer. The FCN did not provide any information about the length of the contract.
“With Ioannis we get a lot of quality in the right-back position. He has proven his abilities in recent years. He will not only help us on the pitch with his offensive strength and his pace, but we will also benefit from his overall experience in our young dressing room,” explained sports director Joti Chatzialexiou. With Rayan Ghrieb from 1. FC Magdeburg and Fynn Otto from SC Verl, he has already been able to bring two new signings to Nuremberg.
Maouras played 39 games for Omonia last season and was involved in eight goals. Among other things, he played in the Conference League against Mainz 05 (0:1). After he was the undisputed regular in the first half of the season, his playing times fell significantly from February onwards. He brings the experience of 23 European Cup appearances to the club.
Masouras said: “I had a good feeling from the first contact. 1. FC Nürnberg is a big club, the German league is very attractive. I’m looking forward to my time in Nuremberg and getting to know the team and fans as soon as possible and helping the team do well in terms of sport.” On the right side of defense he will compete with homegrown Tim Janisch and talent Justin von der Hitz, as Henri Koudossou will return to FC Augsburg after his loan.
