May 7, 2026 – 10:56 p.mReading time: 1 min.

Early dismissal, early goal and a football gala: SC Freiburg reached the final of the Europa League on an emotional evening and achieved something historic.

SC Freiburg is writing club history and is in a European final for the first time. Coach Julian Schuster’s team turned around the deficit from the semi-final first leg (1:2) of the Europa League and won 3:1 (2:0) in their own stadium. Lukas Kübler (19th) and Johan Manzambi (41st) scored the important goals in the first half. When Kübler then scored his second goal (72nd), it soon looked like the decision would be made. However, Pau Victor (79th) shortened the score. An exciting final phase then developed, from which Freiburg emerged as winners.

Freiburg began to tremble, even though they had the majority for a long time. Mario Dorgeles was sent off the pitch in the sixth minute after an emergency stop on Niklas Beste. The Breisgau team had the majority for over 80 minutes.

In the final on May 20th, Freiburg will face Aston Villa in Istanbul. The English prevailed against their league rivals from Nottingham and were also able to turn around the 0-1 deficit from the first leg and win 4-0.
