Sports hall De Slagen in Waalwijk was evacuated in a hurry on Thursday evening and closed immediately due to possible problems with the roof. Final exams were to be held on Friday morning, but they cannot take place there now.
The municipality immediately intervened on Thursday evening after possible defects in part of the roof structure came to light. As a precaution, it was decided to immediately evacuate and close the sports hall at De Gaard.
Exams now in classrooms
Due to the closure, the planned final exams for secondary school students cannot take place there on Friday. The adjacent Willem van Oranje College wanted to use the sports hall for the exams.
Location director Kees Smit announced on Thursday evening that the exams will continue on Friday at the times that the exam candidates had already received. Due to the closure of the sports hall, the exams will be moved to the school itself and taken in normal classrooms.
Research by experts
The municipality first has the situation at the sports hall thoroughly investigated by experts. Until then, Sports Hall De Slagen will remain closed and no activities will be allowed.
