From the outside it looks like a classic mansion in Grave, but anyone who enters here at Maasstraat will soon discover that this is anything but an ordinary house. Behind the historic facade of the national monument De Prins lies a house full of color, creativity and surprises. “You immediately fall silent upon entering,” says real estate agent Alice van de Burgt of Hans Janssen Makelaars Grave.

The mansion dates from about 1650 and has had various functions over the centuries. From dry cleaning to antique dealers and from room rental properties to showrooms. That rich history is still reflected in the layout of the house.

The house has become larger over time because an old barn has been added. This has created a lot of extra living space. The original cellars have also been preserved, one of which is even accessible from the street.

Five floors full of surprises
What makes this house so special is that the surprises just keep on coming. After the colorful period room follows a ‘Japanese’ room with striking wallpaper, a gas fireplace and Asian influences. “It may not seem that big from the street, but the house is very deep and has five floors. You just don’t expect that kind of space,” says Van de Burgt.

The lounge room is one of these special spaces. With the original beams still visible, this room is used in all kinds of ways: as an office, guest room, music room or even as a home cinema.

It doesn’t stop at this room. For example, there is a Mediterranean bar in the basement where many parties have been held and the house has a Mediterranean courtyard with a large palm. It is an oasis of peace where you can relax in the summer and which perfectly underlines the unique character of the building.

Monument with a modern twist
Monumental details have been carefully handled during renovations. The facades, sliding windows and fascias have been preserved, as have the wooden beams, high ceilings and vaulted cellars.

At the same time, the house has been fully adapted to today’s comfort. With four bedrooms, various work and living spaces and an attractive patio in the middle of the city, it is a place where living and working go together effortlessly.

Living comfortably in the middle of history
According to Van de Burgt, living in the historic center of Grave above all means enjoying it. “It is very lively and pleasant here. Shops, restaurants and cafes are just around the corner and as a resident you literally have a front row seat at events.”

With a living area of 189 square meters, the mansion is for sale for 675,000 euros kk. According to Van the real estate agent, it is truly a dream home for creative bon vivants who love atmosphere and versatility. “This is nothing for people who are looking for a standard home. But if you want a house that no one else has, you can find your own place here.”
