In Drenthe, Groningen and Friesland and on the Wadden Islands, code orange will again apply until 12 noon tomorrow, so Rijkswaterstaat is asking people to work from home if possible. Anyone who has to go on the road on Friday should be careful. “People really have to be alert and careful,” said a spokesperson.
In the three northern provinces and on the Wadden there will be a lot of snow and strong winds from midnight. This causes snow to be blown away and snowdrifts can form. “We don’t yet know exactly whether the strong wind is in the entire north or only on the coastal strips. We also don’t know how much snow is falling.” This can turn out very differently on roads, for example whether or not a flyover is passable for trucks.
“That makes it look like coffee grounds.” Rijkswaterstaat sticks to a general appeal: “Keep your distance, drive carefully, anticipate, and leave early so that you are not in a hurry.” Then the chance of something happening to you is smaller, but it cannot be ruled out, the spokesperson said.
Code orange applies on Friday until 12 noon.
