26-year-old Boris from Uden is seen as a real hero. On Monday morning he saved a man who came out of his house burning by rolling him in the snow. “The man was completely black and in shock,” Boris told Omroep Brabant. “I’m glad I was able to help him.”

A house on the Bijland in Uden completely burned down on Monday morning. According to eyewitnesses, it was a battery fire that started in the backyard. The resident of the house was seriously injured.

Big impression
Boris has been living in the street for just fifteen days and on his own for the first time. Monday morning he gets into his car when he smells a very sour smell. “Further along I saw black smoke rising above the houses. There were no police yet, nothing was there at all.” The 26-year-old man doesn’t think twice, puts his car aside and runs towards the house. “Then I saw a man come out of the house completely burned and black. I rolled him through the snow and later put him in the shower with local residents.”

A few hours after his heroic act, Boris tells his story very matter-of-factly. “For me it’s just helping someone who needs help.” Still, it left a big impression. “I had to think twice when I saw that man coming out of his house. He was all black.”

Is Boris a hero?
Neighbors are now panicking and screaming, but Boris said he remained calm. “I can deal with it well.” He tries to talk to the victim but he is in shock. “I didn’t know the man, I don’t actually know anyone here in the street. According to neighbors, the man is a tinkerer, someone who likes to tinker with mopeds.” The possible cause of the devastating fire is a battery fire.

Local residents, and also Boris’s mother, see him as a hero. Not Boris himself. “I’m glad I did it. An officer thanked me for the quick help. I think I was there within two minutes after the fire started.”

Working was no longer an option for Boris. Firstly because his car was surrounded by fire trucks and also at work they thought it would be better if he would recover from his action.
