A year ago, Eintracht Frankfurt spent 26 million euros to bring Elye Wahi from France. Less than twelve months later, the striker is heading back.

Eintracht Frankfurt and Elye Wahi are going their separate ways for the time being. The striker will be loaned out to OGC Nice until the end of the season – according to media reports, the French first division club does not have a purchase option.

Wahi was signed by Olympique Marseille a year ago for around 26 million euros, but was unable to meet expectations. In 25 competitive games he only managed one goal.

Frankfurt’s sports director Markus Krösche said: “We will follow his path closely and are convinced that a loan to an ambitious club makes the most sense for everyone in the current situation.” The 22-year-old is returning to his homeland. Nice is reportedly covering the entire salary.

Eintracht has already stepped up their game: Younes Ebnoutalib was signed by SV Elversberg on Monday. Another striker could also come.
