A Norwegian biathlete who died at the age of 27 Sivert Guttorm Bakken27, the family will have to live in uncertainty for months, reports a Norwegian newspaper VG.
Bakken was found dead in his hotel room in Italy on December 23. According to VG, an autopsy was performed on Bakken over the weekend, but the cause of death has still not been confirmed.
– We hoped that the family would have received answers now, but they won’t come for months, the lawyer of the Bakken family Bernt Heiberg said in the announcement according to VG.
Currently, information on the cause of death is expected to be available in March, as the prosecutor in Italy has informed investigators that the report must be handed over by March 7.
According to the law firm, the Italian police are investigating the case, but this does not mean that a crime has been committed.
– It just means that there is no information on the cause of death.
According to VG, Bakken’s body will be transported to Norway in the next few days.
When Bakken was found in the hotel room, the athlete’s face was wearing a mask that regulates oxygen supply and simulates staying in high conditions. According to VG’s information, Bakken’s mask was adjusted to meet the conditions at an altitude of 7,000 meters.
– So far, the investigation has not revealed anything that would confirm or deny the involvement of the device in the death, the law firm announced.
The family’s attorney strongly urges sportspeople and the media to refrain from speculating on Bakken’s cause of death.
According to the lawyer, the sports people must evaluate the use of the mask so that the issue is not connected to the death of Bakken.
