After a record sunny March, the month of April has started again with a record: it has never been this cold on April 1. In Maastricht, the mercury reached a maximum of 1.8 degrees on Friday.
The previous record was 3.4 degrees, Meteo Limburg reports. That was 1963.
Lowest in the Netherlands
The KNMI weather station at the airport near Beek reported the lowest maximum in the Netherlands on Friday. In the rest of Limburg it didn’t get very warm either, with maximums of 2 to 3 degrees.
In the course of Friday evening it will still remain cool in South Limburg, with a chance of snow, which will make it white and slippery. A mix of light rain and (wet) snow falls in North and Central Limburg. Later in the evening temperatures drop to freezing point everywhere in Limburg.
Warmer
The mercury will rise again on Saturday, with sunny moments of about 6 degrees. There is, however, a breath of fresh air. At the beginning of next week there will be no more night frosts. From Tuesday we can count on about 12 degrees, although that too is below the long-term average of 14 degrees.
