But what is the status of the regional language content in our Drenthe 1000? We approached music editor Carlo Deuten for this.
The regional languages are well represented in our Drenthe 1000. Carlo counted a total of 365 songs. This also includes combinations of regional languages. For example, Hoogevener Rene Karst is in the list with the duet ‘Forest wood for the door / Forest holt veur de door’, which he recorded with Hendrik Jan Bökkers. The latter sings partly in Sallandse and Rene partly in Drenthes.
And of course we see bands like Normaal, Rowwen Heze and De Kast in the Drentse 1000.
“Drenthe is very well represented with 190 listings,” says Carlo. “I also counted songs from artists from outside our province who sing in Drenthe. An example of this is the Broers Roo. They are in the list five times, including with ‘Olde Jetta’, with which they won the Drenthe Songfestival this year.”
Other Drenthe-speaking artists that we find in the list are of course Daniel Lohues, Bert Hadders, Leon Moorman and Mooi Wark. And we haven’t mentioned them all yet.
The Drenthe 1000 starts on Wednesday, December 24, at 12 noon. On New Year’s Day around 5:55 PM we will play number 1.
