Thorsten Fink once coached Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga. He then worked for several clubs abroad. An engagement in Belgium is now ending prematurely.
Thorsten Fink is no longer the coach of the Belgian first division club KRC Genk. The club announced its separation from the former Bayern professional after a disappointing 1-1 draw against KVC Westerlo.
The club cited the team’s inconsistent results and mixed performances as the reason for this. In the current season, Genk is already 14 points behind leaders Union St. Gilloise after 18 games. Fink took over the coaching position in the summer of 2024.
“KRC Genk is now looking for a new head coach who is best suited to achieve its sporting goals,” the club also announced. According to the club, Fink’s assistants Domenico Olivieri and Michel Ribeiro will initially be leading the training.
The former midfielder Fink, who was on the sidelines at Hamburger SV between 2011 and 2013, has already completed numerous international positions in his coaching career. Before joining Genk, the 58-year-old worked at KVV St. Truiden and gained experience in Austria, Switzerland, Cyprus, Japan, Latvia and Saudi Arabia.
