Auchan, like sports chain Decathlon owned by the French Mulliez family, has entered into a partnership with Intermarché. The plan still needs to get the green light from the competition authorities.
In concrete terms, Auchan will set up a legal entity to continue operating the supermarkets, but through a franchise contract with Intermarché. The real estate would remain in the hands of Auchan.
