Rasim Bulic disappointed after conceding a goal

As of: November 21, 2025 8:55 p.m

Third division table leaders MSV Duisburg received a big slap from the second representative of 1899 Hoffenheim.

At the start of the 15th matchday, the Meiderich team clearly lost to TSG 1:4 (0:4) and could lose first place on this matchday to their pursuers Energie Cottbus, VfL Osnabrück or Rot-Weiss Essen. Paul Hennrich (6th), David Mokwa (36th/45th), Amaimouni-Echghouyab (42nd) scored the Hoffenheim goals before the break. Conor Noß scored for Duisburg (72nd).

At MSV there was a change in the starting line-up compared to the last league game against Mannheim (2-1): Leon Müller started instead of Christian Viet. TSG made five changes after the 2-1 defeat in Schweinfurt. Luca Erlein, Valentin Lässig, Amaimouni-Echghouyab, Valentin Gendrey and Mokwa started for Yannis Hör, Florian Bähr, Diren Dagdeviren, Arian Llugiqi and Ben Opoku Labes.

Braune’s mistake leads to TSG’s early lead

The game began with an open exchange of blows. Hoffenheim had an early finish through Gendrey, who went straight to MSV goalkeeper Maximilian Braune (1st). On the other hand, Müller took a shot from a distance and narrowly missed the TSG goal (3rd). The next time Hoffenheim had a chance, the ball was already in the net. Paul Hennrich took advantage of a mistake by Braune, who was unable to hold on to a shot from Amaimouni-Echghouyab, and made it 1-0 (6th). There was initially no quick response from Duisburg; instead, the home team controlled the action.

In the 18th minute, Amaimouni-Echghouyab had a chance to make it 2-0, but Braune thwarted it. Four minutes later, the MSV keeper was again the winner in the duel with the Hoffenheim shooting star (22nd). Deniz Zeitler had the next TSG shot from distance (25th). Only then did the MSV have another opportunity. During a counterattack, Patrick Sussek served Tim Heike in the middle, but he was blocked when he finished (25′).

Three Hoffenheim goals in six minutes

Nothing more came from Duisburg, instead Hoffenheim continued to make it 2-0. After shots from Zeitler (31′) and Ruben Reisig (34′), this happened in the 36th minute: Mokwa completed a beautifully executed TSG attack from close range. A similar picture in the 42nd minute when Amaimouni-Echghouyab made it 3-0, when MSV was again overwhelmed by Hoffenheim’s speed. When Mokwa made it 4-0, a long ball from the TSG half was enough to give the Frenchman a one-on-one with Braune, which he used to score his second goal (45′).

Noß with the Duisburg consolation goal

After the break, MSV tried to limit the damage, but did not threaten the Hoffenheim goal. Bähr tried for TSG from 25 meters, but missed clearly (52nd). There was no real rebellion from Duisburg and the game was no longer as fast-paced as it had been before the break.

It wasn’t until the 64th minute that Noß had another header chance for MSV, but it ended up safely in the hands of Lukas Petersson, who had been largely unemployed until then, in the TSG goal. In the 72nd minute, Duisburg surprisingly scored their first goal of the evening. This time MSV benefited from a mistake by the Hoffenheim goalkeeper, who allowed a lob from Noß to slip through his hands and into the goal.

The game was now balanced again. Zeitler missed for Hoffenheim (76th), substitute Maximilian Dittgen for Duisburg (77th). Braune made a strong save to prevent Amaimouni-Echghouyab from making it 5-0 (82′). Not much happened in front of either goal until the final whistle.

Home game against Aachen

MSV will play a home game next week on Saturday (November 29th) against Alemannia Aachen. Kick-off is at 2 p.m. TSG will be playing against FC Ingolstadt at the same time.
