Markus Eisenbichler himself was active on the ski jump for years. Now the ex-DSV Adler is taking a new perspective on his sport after retiring from his career.
Six years ago, Markus Eisenbichler was crowned world champion on the large hill. In March of this year he ended his career as a ski jumper. But he remains loyal to his sport – from a different perspective. Because: Eisenbichler will be a TV expert at Eurosport from Friday at the start of the World Cup.
Eisenbichler does not regret the decision to end his sporting career. “Even with a little distance, I have to say that it was definitely the right decision. Once you reach a certain age, your journey as a competitive athlete ends, even if we ski jumpers can pursue our careers for a comparatively long time,” said the 34-year-old in an interview with his new employer.
Eisenbichler is looking forward to the Olympic season with excitement and of course also has his former teammates in mind. Philipp Raimund was recently able to convince, he won the Summer Grand Prix and, according to Eisenbichler, has “good abilities”.
“I have a lot of confidence in him this winter. I hope that he stays calm and doesn’t let himself be deterred,” said the ex-DSV Adler, who added: “During my active career, I learned that in ski jumping you have to concentrate on yourself.”
There are also high hopes for Andreas Wellinger, who became Olympic champion in 2018. Eisenbichler: “He has the experience, the calmness and knows what is important. Things may not have gone well last summer either, but I believe – knowing him – that he has analyzed exactly what he needs to work on.”
