Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler from Hamburg also won their second match at the Beach Volleyball World Championships in Adelaide and are now in the knockout round early. This also applies to Lukas Pfretzschner and Sven Winter.

The Olympic silver medalists Ehlers and Wickler (Eimsbütteler TV) easily defeated the outsiders Jose Alberto Mondlane/Osvaldo Mungoi from Mozambique 2-0 (21:11, 21:8) and moved into the round of the best 32 after their second win in the second game.

In their third game, Ehlers and Wickler will face the Argentinians Nicolás and Tomás Capogrosso on Monday. “They’re a very strong opponent. We’ve played against them before. It’s definitely going to be a great fight,” said Ehlers in the ARD interview.

Pfretzschner/Winter also continued early

In addition to Ehlers and Wickler, Pfretzschner and Winter have already secured their ticket to the round of the best 32. The duo from FC St. Pauli defeated the Chinese Yanwei Wang/Hongjon Du 2-0 (21:14, 21:16) and advanced early.

At the end of the group phase, the two Hamburgers will meet the Polish duo Michał Bryl/Bartosz Łosiak.

Second victory for Ittlinger/Greens

Sandra Ittlinger and Anna Grüne (DJK TuSA 06 Düsseldorf/Grizzlys Giesen) also achieved their second victory in the Australian coastal town. The duo beat Vanessa Muianga/Mercia Mucheza from Mozambique 2-0 (21:10, 21:6).

“We didn’t let it take the butter out of our bread.”

Anna Grüne after the win against Mozambique

“That was probably an easier opponent than France was or the USA will be tomorrow. But we are at a World Cup, they can all play beach volleyball. It’s always full throttle, every point is important. We did that well today, we didn’t let it take away the butter from our bread,” said Grüne.

The two top-placed duos and the four best third-place teams in each twelve groups move directly into the round of the best 32 teams. The remaining third-place winners fight for the remaining tickets in a lucky loser round.
