Łukasz Piszczek played for Borussia Dortmund for over a decade. Now he is taking a new path in his career.
Łukasz Piszczek dares to take the step into the professional business – not as a player, but for the first time as a head coach. The former BVB defender is taking over a struggling second division team in Poland.
The 40-year-old former professional will be the new head coach of GKS Tychy, a club from Poland’s second division that is currently in a difficult sporting situation. The team is stuck in the bottom of the table and is in a relegation battle.
For Piszczek, his commitment to GKS Tychy is his first position as a head coach in paid professional football. After retiring, he initially worked at the lower-class club LKS Goczalkowice, where he also ended his career as a player. There he gained his first experiences in team leadership.
At the same time, he worked as assistant coach to Nuri Şahin at Borussia Dortmund, his long-standing club. Between 2010 and 2021, the trained right-back played almost 400 competitive games for the Bundesliga club. During this time he won, among other things, two German championships, three DFB Cups and three Supercup titles. He also played 66 times internationally for Poland.
For Piszczek, the move to the sidelines marks a new phase in his career. With the return to his home country comes the task of stabilizing a team in a tense sporting situation and protecting it from the threat of relegation.
