After the 1-0 win last Friday, the DFB women’s team will play against France in the semi-final second leg of the Nations League in Caen on Tuesday (9:10 p.m.) with great ambitions to reach the final.

From the inside, the Stade Michel-d’Ornano is a real gem, 18,000 fans can fit in for international matches, the seats are decorated in France colors and on Tuesday “Les Bleues” will also dominate here – from the German national coach’s point of view, of course, hopefully only in the stands. Christian Wück wants his team to build on last week’s strong performance – even if he expects a lot from their opponents.

Germany's players celebrate a goal

With a courageous performance in Düsseldorf, national coach Christian Wück’s team has put itself in a good position for the semi-final second leg on Tuesday.

Wück: “Angry teams also make mistakes”

Everything is ready in Caen for the semi-final second leg of the Nations League between France and Germany

“The French want to do something well, show that they can do better than in the first leg in Düsseldorf and also in the European Championship quarter-finals,” said Wück on Monday at the press conference before the game. “We expect a team that wants to show that it is better than the last results. And we know that an angry team can also make mistakes and that there can be room for us,” said the national coach, indicating the German tactics. Last Friday, his team was consistently convincing and played exciting football; the only thing that had to be criticized was their efficiency in front of the goal.

Minge in the squad, Brand on the ten

Co-captain Janina Minge is available again after her yellow card suspension. Wück left it open whether the Wolfsburg player will also play. Linda Dallmann left due to illness, all other players in the current squad are ready for action.

Jule Brand is expected to take on the role of playmaker again. “It was a lot of fun. I like the position,” explained the 23-year-old. “I can be a little freer, move around more. There’s still room for improvement, but I would be happy if I could play a few more times on the number 10.”

The final round of the Nations League

Sweden and Spain face each other in the second semi-final second leg on Tuesday (7 p.m.) in Gothenburg. The Spaniards already have one foot in the final after their 4-0 home win. The final and the duel for third place will also be played in a two-leg format. The games will take place on November 28th and December 2nd. The German team has home advantage in the first leg, which is played in the Fritz Walter Stadium in Kaiserslautern.

Brand and Bacha swapped jerseys

Brand moved from VfL Wolfsburg to OL Lyonnes in the summer and will therefore meet some teammates again in the second leg. After the first leg, she swapped jerseys with defender Selma Bacha. “We also talked briefly on the bus. The mood wasn’t that good, so it was a short conversation,” said Brand.

Penalty shootouts were not practiced

Should France win the game by one goal, a penalty shootout would follow after extra time. Wück hasn’t had any special training for this in the past few days: “The European Championships weren’t that long ago. The players should still know what it’s about.” Jule Brand confirmed: “Now it counts” – the ambitions to reach the final and end the year with a title are great.

Parallel to the game between France and Germany, four games in the second round of the men’s DFB Cup will take place on Tuesday. When asked why TV viewers should prefer the women’s Nations League game, Wück replied: “We have already provided arguments with the game in Düsseldorf. And we are always able to show attractive football.”
