Renze Klamer is dragged into the TV swamp by the megaflop RTL Tonight. The until recently celebrated talk show star has lost his edge and went deep with Yolanthe Cabau this week.
It is perhaps the most painful TV defeat of the season: the downfall of Renze Klamer. His talent has not been recognized by RTL 4 boss Peter van der Vorst and that is why we now see him muddle through as one of the rotating presenters in the soulless and generic RTL Tonight. The longer this takes, the more harmful it is for him.
‘None!’
Tina Nijkamp, our country’s TV authority, watches with sorrow as Renze is dragged into the abyss. “What’s wrong with him?” she wonders out loud in her column The Telegraph.
We are talking about the presenter who was nominated for the Sonja Barend Award last year, she emphasizes. “He excelled in sharp interviews with a critical note, but always human. The same Renze sat opposite Yolanthe on Friday evening in RTL tonight and asked literally zero critical questions. None.”

Renze was treating Yolanthe really sweetly and casually noticed that he even has a mini role in one of her new B-movies. “It was not a conversation, it was a jubilant PR moment for Yolanthe in talk show packaging,” says Tina.
For example, the RTL star should really have asked about the abrupt decision to cancel Yolanthe’s soap, she thinks. According to her, no sensible question arose. “Yes Renze, it is painful to present a flop, but that should not be an excuse for a journalistic hibernation. And certainly not for perhaps the worst interview of the year.”
