Hannover 96 gives Eintracht Braunschweig no chance in the Niedersachsensenderby. Kaiserslautern missed a big point in the promotion battle.
Hannover 96 won the emotionally charged Niedersachsensenderby at Eintracht Braunschweig 3-0 (2-0). With the away win, 96 moved back into the promotion places and is now fifth in the table with 20 points.
Hannover 96 won a heated high-security derby at Eintracht Braunschweig and thus improved to fourth place in the 2nd Bundesliga. The 3-0 (2-0) win against their arch rivals had two main players: Finnish national striker Benjamin Källman (32nd/36th) scored two goals for the 96ers.
And Braunschweig’s Erencan Yardimci was shown a red card in the 20th minute. The 23-year-old striker grabbed his opponent Boris Tomiak’s neck with both hands. The guests, who were significantly stronger in terms of football, confidently exploited the more than 70-minute advantage after this choking gesture. Daisuke Yokota (61st) scored after the break.
Last season, visiting fans were largely excluded from this hateful duel for security reasons. This time the Eintracht Stadium was sold out again with 22,089 spectators.
The police secured the game with a large-scale operation. And apart from a short interruption, which was caused by the burning of pyrotechnics in the Hannover block in the fourth minute, things remained largely quiet, at least in the stadium. Both fan groups even briefly stopped supporting the team in the second half because of a medic call to the stands.
How much poison there is in this derby was shown by the sending off. Yardimci and his opponent clashed even though the game had just been stopped following a foul elsewhere.
The Turk’s blackout and sending off completely unsettled the hosts. When the score was 0-1, three Braunschweig players let the assist provider Mustapha Bundu go. Goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann looked bad at 0:2. A third goal by Källman did not count due to offside (47th). After the red card, only Hannover played in this one-sided derby.
1. FC Nürnberg is standing still in the 2nd Bundesliga with coach Miroslav Klose. The club managed to draw 1-1 (0-1) at 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Sunday afternoon and avoided defeat with a very late penalty goal. The lead over a relegation place is only two points after ten match days.
Daniel Hanslik initially gave the home team the lead in the 45th minute, and Robin Knoche (90+3) made it a respectable success with his goal from a penalty kick in the final phase. Thanks to the draw, Kaiserslautern remains within reach of the top group.
Nuremberg, who were under pressure, didn’t hide at Betzenberg and had an early chance to take the lead with a penalty kick. But Julian Justvan slipped, hit his leg and the ball ended up flying over the goal (15th). This took revenge shortly before the break when Hanslik humorlessly hit the right corner after a failed Nuremberg attempt to clear the ball. Nuremberg’s Rafael Lubach missed the huge opportunity to respond immediately (45th + 2).
