Measured by market values, SV Wehen Wiesbaden would have to compete for promotion as the fifth most valuable team in the 3rd league. However, after only six points from the last six games, the table is looking downwards. Now head coach Nils Döring has to take his hat off.
“Nils Döring took over the team in a very demanding situation and stabilized the team after relegation,” explained SVWW managing director Uwe Stöver. “We were convinced for a long time that we could achieve our sporting goals with him. Ultimately, however, we came to the conclusion that a change in the coaching position was necessary in order to bring about a turnaround.” Assistant coaches Frank Steinmetz and Giuliano Modica will initially take over the team on an interim basis.
Wiesbaden recently suffered defeats against Hansa Rostock and relegation candidate Alemannia Aachen. After twelve match days, the Hessians only have four wins and have slipped to at least twelfth place in the table. Döring has played 61 SVWW games since last year, but was a member of the club long before he became head coach. The Wiesbaden native came to SV Wehen as a player in 2010 and later worked as a youth coach for years and as interim coach for the first team for two games in 2022. Last year he succeeded Markus Kauczinski as head of the company.
“This step is extremely difficult for us because Nils has been very committed to the SVWW in a variety of functions over many years,” said sports boss Stöver. “His many years of loyalty, his strong identification with the club’s values and his tireless commitment deserve the highest respect. We thank him for everything he has given the club and wish him only the best for the future.”
Döring said: “A long journey at SVWW is coming to an end. They were beautiful and intensive years with many unique moments. I am very grateful to SV Wehen Wiesbaden for having been given the opportunity for my first position as head coach in professional football. These years were characterized by great encounters and shared passion. The SVWW is and remains a special club for me – I wish only that from the bottom of my heart for the team and the club Best.”
