Leroy Sané led Galatasaray to victory in the city derby at Basaksehir with a brace. The 29-year-old scored in stoppage time in the first half and in the 61st minute in the Turkish champions’ 2-1 (1-0) win. The first goal was prepared by his long-time teammate in the DFB selection, İlkay Gündoğan.

For Sané it was the number two and three competitive goals for Galatasaray; in total he has six goals in ten games. The goals should be good for the ex-Bundesliga professional – especially since he was recently out of demand in the national team under national coach Julian Nagelsmann. The offensive man moved to Istanbul from FC Bayern Munich on a free transfer in the summer, but had shown mixed performances there so far. Now the shape curve points upwards.

“InSané in Basaksehir,” wrote Galatasaray on “X,” acknowledging the performance of his new signing, who now seems to be arriving. “Back with a win – let’s keep it going!” wrote the attacker on his social networks – in German: “Back with a win – let’s keep going!”

Sané had to accept a huge drop in market value at Galatasaray

“Leroy knows that he still has a lot of potential for improvement. That’s what he’s working for. He also wants to get into a certain rhythm,” explained veteran Gündoğan, who has played 124 games with the ex-Bayern player, in an interview with “Sky Sport DE”. Sané can earn up to 15 million euros net per season in Istanbul, depending on his performance. While the transfer gave him a rise from a financial perspective, his market value fell from 32 million to 25 million euros in the Süper Lig update – his lowest value since 2016 as a talent at Schalke.

Sinan Yener, Turkey expert at Transfermarkt, explained at the beginning of October: “Nobody expected that such a well-known player would move to the Süper Lig in June. Normally, such stars only came in the last hours of the transfer window. Sané moved from Munich to the weaker Süper Lig, he is 29 years old, was no longer called up for the German national team and has the expectations at Galatasaray not yet fulfilled. These are crucial for the devaluation.”
