Leroy Sané led Galatasaray Istanbul to victory in the city duel with two goals. In the 2-1 (1-0) win against Istanbul city rivals Başakşehir, the national player scored both goals for the Turkish champions.
Sané first scored in stoppage time in the first half before scoring again in the 61st minute. Ilkay Gündogan – his long-time teammate from the national team – prepared the first goal.
For the 29-year-old, it was the second and third competitive goals in the Galatasaray jersey. The offensive player moved from FC Bayern Munich to Istanbul in the summer. After a rather mixed start so far, the derby double pack should also be an important sign with regard to his situation in the national team. National coach Julian Nagelsmann did not consider Sané for the last games in the World Cup qualification.
