Ajax seemed to come back to 2-1 through Youri Baas, but in the run-up to the goal, Wout Weghorst elbowed Wouter Goes. “I immediately saw that something was happening,” says Martens. “The video referee quickly realized that. I was convinced that the goal would be disallowed.”
“I was especially disappointed with how the goal was scored,” Koopmeiners responds. After seeing the images, the midfielder understands why AZ had one man less. “These are things that I don’t think really belong. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Goes were to provoke it. I don’t think there is ever a reason to let you go like that.”
