Election posters and a ballot box in the Roden Toy Museum. Not for the House of Representatives elections, but to vote for the most iconic toys and what should really be returned to the renovated museum. It is part of the new exhibition ‘Toy Museum Chooses.’

Yet it is still exciting, because the Noordenveld municipal council will soon vote on whether the museum will receive three million euros to carry out the long-desired renovation. In order not to stand still, the museum has delved into its own depot to exhibit long ‘hidden’ toys.

Lego, Meccano, Barbie or a stove from the 70s? “The display cases are still very full of different toys. The public will soon be able to vote on what will be included in the permanent presentation from this collection,” says museum director Jantina van den Broek.

“We have the largest toy collection in the Netherlands with more than 15,000 pieces,” she continues. A large part of that collection is spread across three different attics. “And we would like even more toys, so it is important that we get more space.” In addition, not all attics comply with the rules for museum depots.
