Last fall, the lock building at the Koppelsluis near the Veenvaart burned out completely. In anticipation of a new building, an emergency building was temporarily placed near the lock. The white box will continue to serve for the time being, inquires with the province.
At the beginning of this year it was indicated that the recovery would still take ‘all year round’. But now it is getting a little longer.
The design for the new lock building has since been approved by the municipality of Emmen. The application for the construction is also out. The next step is to put the project on the market, so that a contractor can be selected for construction.
Whether the new building will be ready for the 2026 sailing season is uncertain. “The operation of the lock is and remains fully guaranteed in the meantime. The current emergency building provides for the necessary support until the new building is ready.” The province cannot make any statements about the amount of the investment.
