Thomas Müller led the Vancouver Whitecaps to the fourth title in the Canadian Championship in a row. The 36-year-old ex-international was involved in the final with a goal and a template on 4: 2 (3: 1) against the local rival Vancouver FC. With now 35 trophies, the 2014 world champion is the most successful German title collector in front of his long -time team companion Toni Kroos, who won 34 trophies with Real Madrid, Bayern and the national team.
Müller initiated the early tour of Ali Ahmed in the 5th minute. Then the long-time Bayern professional converted a penalty to 2-0 in the 10th minute-it was the 300th goal of his professional career. 250 in the Bayern jersey, 45 for the German national team and five for the Whitecaps.
The Canadian Ahmed (37th) and the substitute Ryan Gauld (83.) substitute for Müller scored the further goals for the team from the North American professional league MLS. For the Vancouver FC from the Canadian league in front of 18,372 spectators Elage Bah (35th) and Nicolas Mezquida (85th).
Müller: “Statistics are a nice thing, nothing more and nothing less”
In the “Sport Bild”, Müller had recently described himself as “most successful title hamster in Germany”. “The question is always: how do you weight these titles? One becomes a national champion more often, the other has more Champions League victories on the account,” explained Müller. “Statistics are a nice thing, nothing more and nothing less.” With the Whitecaps, it is now also qualified for the Champions Cup of the North and Central American Association Concacaf.
Müller can target the next title in the MLS. Since his debut on August 18, the Whitecaps have won three victories and three draws and are on the 1st place of the Western Conference shortly before the start of the playoffs.
