The Telekom Baskets Bonn missed the start of the new Bundesliga season – in front of a home crowd.
On Saturday evening, the Bonners slept above all the first minutes of the game against Würzburg. A mortgage that they no longer recovered. In the end there was a 61: 72 defeat at the start.
The Rhinelander found it very difficult to encounter, gave numerous opportunities at the beginning. Only after 3:23 minutes did Grayson Murphy ensure the first BBL season in Bonn. At that time, however, the home side were already behind with seven points. As a result, this gap even grew to eleven points. It was only in the last few minutes of the first quarter that the Baskets got better into the game and shortened to 17:22.
Bonn lack accuracy in the degrees
In the second quarter, too, the team of Marko Stankovic continued to cause accuracy in the degrees. Above all, the throwing rate from outside was catastrophic. This time it was hardly better for the Würzburgers and so it took 2:51 minutes for the first points to fall in the second phase of the game. Murphy safely sank the ball in the basket.
Joel-Sadu Aminu was even able to shorten to one point for Bonn. But numerous mistakes and unclean passing gave the guests a 9-0 run. In the end, the Würzburg Baskets went into the half-time break with a 35:24 lead. Both teams clearly noted that the offensive processes still have a lot of room for improvement.
The Telekom Baskets Bonn came out of the cabin with a lot of pressure. Jonathan Bähre and Tylan Birts by Dunking let the home side come up with quiet hope. But it was quickly suffocated in the bud. Both Brae Ivey and Davion Mintz met from the triple line, Alen Pjanic converted a rebound. The Würzburger’s lead grew to 19 points up to the 27th minute. The third quarter ended with a basket of Johnathan Stove to 57:36 for Würzburg.
Bonn is difficult
The final quarter began with a diluted threesome by Bonn’s Grayson Murphy. After 32 minutes, this meant a quota of only two goals from 23 attempts – definitely one of the reasons for the big deficit. The Rhinelander did not give up with their backs to the wall. They now searched the throw from the outside significantly less often, instead they found the man under the basket more often. That didn’t change the defeat.
In the next game, the Baskets will compete on Thursday (8 p.m.) at the Syntainics MBC.
