Technological disruption did not leave the universe of urban transport. The appearance of applications was replacing in a leisurely but inexorable process to system icons, such as taxis and remises that were a postcard of large cities, such as Buenos Aires. In this, the evolution of smartphones had an impact: it is estimated that in 2025 there were 40 million devices over a total of 59 million active lines (almost 1.5 per inhabitant greater than 14 years).

Tactile revolution. The ease of use and evolution of a friendly technology as well as the penetration of the different payment wallets pushed the business: Uber estimates that there are almost 350,000 drivers registered in transport applications, a number that may seem inflated by the overlap. and filed the old conflict between “registered” and “uberized” taxi drivers in high -density sites, such as the City of Buenos Aires. Precisely, Uber estimates that almost 17,000 registered drivers are also traditional taxis.

The only bottleneck so that the business continues its march is that of access to the car that meets the minimum requirements established, by the three main companies: Uber, Cabify and Didi. At the end of 2024 the Argentine Automotive Park was 12 million vehicles, according to the Association of Argentine Component Factories (AFAC) with an average age of 10 years. The value of the zero kilometer, the difficulties to finance the purchase and the high maintenance expenses are a ballast for the expansion of said park and its renewal. It is estimated that the monthly cost of one of the three best -selling cars of the last five years, the Fiat Cronos, is around $ 400,000, only between patent ($ 1.5 million annual in the province of Buenos Aires)Safe against all risk with franchise, an economic garage and the amortization of official services ($ 320,000 every 10,000 kilometers of filming). However, this difficulty became an opportunity for platforms: working on another scale, you can reduce the costs for trip and dispense with at least a second unit.

The stained glass. The accumulation of these reasons became a great opportunity for companies that rent cars to drivers who can overcome one of the difficulties and meet a growing demand. Derenta It is one of them: it has 4,000 registered vehicles, both own and third parties that put them under their administration. “The car as a symbol of status is left behind and emerges a more practical, collaborative and productive vision of mobility; a silent but deep cultural change that is reconfiguring the urban economy, independent work and the value of time” explains the company’s CEO, Juan de la Cruz. Derentas works as a Renting technological platform, managing a fleet of more than 4,000 vehicles in Buenos Aires, available to drivers of applications such as Uber, with which there is a commercial alliance in the region. “We take care of everything: authorization, insurance, maintenance, telemetry, data analytics, with permanent support,” he adds. The company is constituted as an Argentine SRL, with a team of more than 70 collaborators in areas of logistics, IT, administration and operations. “Our goal is to reach 20,000 operating vehicles in the short term, expanding the model to other cities of the country already medium term, we seek to consolidate ourselves as the main ‘Fleettech’ operator in Latin America, integrating verticals into the field ”concludes.

The market. Francisco Diez Peña is Chief Operating Officer of Autonomy, Another Argentine status chaired by José Trusso with focus on urban mobility solutions that was born in 2023 anchored by private investors and grew under the program Scale UP of the Endeavor organization.

He currently has 800 own units and agreements with the platforms for the rental of vehicles to drivers who begin on their way. Its goal is to reach 1,000 for the end of the year and 3,000 by 2026, with Fiat Cronos models, Renault Logan, VW Polo and Toyota Yaris as the most usual. It puts as a special attraction the “Rent To Own” program through a flexible subscription model with a purchase option allows drivers without formal credit history to access their work tool and generate income, which also encourages the care of the fleet and its renewal.

Technology provides the possibility of real -time monitoring of the main business metrics to evaluate the driver’s performance. The “retail” system establishes a free mileage of up to 2,000 km. per week, with all fixed expenses by the company and traffic infractions by the driver. It is estimated that the rental of a car ($ 360,000 per week) takes between 35% and 40% of the proceeds but in some cases the commercial expertise and experience of the driver allows you to bill up to $ 1.8 million every seven days.

The “green” side of this trend is also marked by the rhythm that great platforms printed. Cabify, for example, has already announced that by 2030 it aspires that all its units be of electric motorization: today they have 15 units of this type that they use as demonstration and test for the standardization of the fleet. The future will validate part of these bet and correct others. The creativity and immediate response to new opportunities remains the registered trademark of Argentine entrepreneurs.
