Johan Derksen spent a few weeks in Curaçao for the staff outing of Today Inside, but he can’t imagine doing that again. “Never go again.”

Corendon has spent a lot of money to bring the men from Today Inside to Curaçao, but the men have not really advertised the island. In fact, now, afterwards, Johan Derksen shares a scathing review about his experiences at the holiday resort. He really didn’t like it at all.

Teringwind

It was not a good time for Johan. “It was hard work,” he says in the podcast Greetings from Grolloo. “That sounds crazy, but we had a broadcast at 3:30 p.m., so I had to forward the topics to the editors very early in the morning. And then you had to record Doordekken with Wilfred, but that is on a different part of the island.”

He continues: “You have to go there by car and that will take you two hours. And at 3.30 pm you had the normal broadcast again. It was not a holiday. I have decided: I have been there three times now and I was very hot three times and the wind three times. I will never go on holiday there.”

Patsereiland

Johan is also annoyed by the people who come to Curaçao. “What I also have against the island is that 30 percent of the people live below the poverty line and all Dutch people who belong to the nouveau riche group, or who got rich too quickly, are there. Patsers. Because if you earn your money in the Netherlands, you only pay 5 percent tax there.”

“They all move there and it becomes a kind of state island, but if they do not pay taxes, the government does not have the opportunity to do anything for the people who work below the poverty line.”

Profiteers

According to Johan, the island, where many celebrities such as Irene Moors go, is full of profiteers. And he would rather not be part of that.

“It’s a bit of a strange island. On the one hand, the original people who grew up there don’t have a penny and those rich Dutch people only come there to benefit.”
