It is still very bare in many places in Brabant when it comes to Oranje. But luckily Peer and Meggie from Veldhoven fully compensate for that. Not just a single flag has been hung. The entire facade of their house on Plataanbeek is wrapped in a large orange cloth. Dutch flags hang everywhere and even the palm tree in the front garden has been made completely orange.
Whether it is Christmas, Halloween or a World Cup or European Championship, Peer Andrae only thinks about one thing: “That will be decorating, of course.” Especially now that he is convinced that we will become world champions. “I have very high hopes.”
According to his neighbor, a German economist has often correctly predicted the winner of major tournaments. “And that is what the Netherlands points out. And so: decorate that trade.”

Peer immediately took a big approach. “We do the entire facade. It’s all or nothing.” His wife Meggie had to get used to the plan. “I first thought: he’s just going to do it with flags like other years. But when he said he was going to make the whole house orange, I thought for a moment: oh really, are you really going to do that?”
Peer actually wanted to start two weeks ago. “Then I said: whoa, it hasn’t even started yet,” says Meggie. “I was still able to stretch that.” She also tried to stop him last week. “I said: wouldn’t it be better to wait for the first two games? He really didn’t think that was possible.”
“He’s a decorator.”
Last weekend, Peer finally got to work. “He worked on it all day on Sunday. And now everything is orange,” says Meggie. She can laugh about it herself now. “I think it’s nice.”
Daughter Linn, 10, is also happy with the decorated house. “I think it’s nice. I like that my father did this. Hopefully they will win. This will certainly help.”
According to Meggie, the decorating at their home increases every year. “We do a lot together at Christmas. Even at Halloween. That is also increasing. It goes from bad to worse.” Yet she is proud of her husband. “He did it very nicely. He is a decorator.”
“Then it can be taken off immediately.”
However, not everyone in the area has caught the orange fever yet. All other houses in the street are still bare. “But maybe they will come.”
One thing is clear: when the Dutch team is eliminated, Peer is just as enthusiastic about cleaning up as he is about decorating. Meggie: “Then it can be taken off immediately. The same evening.”
