Maria van Zaelen (102) is a bottomless barrel of stories: “I thought you could get a French kiss in expectation”

There is hardly any photo on the two brown cupboards in her retirement room. So numerous the images are from a distant past, so countless also the anecdotes of Maria van Zaelen. “With my black curls, the boys like to see me coming.” She turned 102 on 13 June and she was not yet out. “My oldest sister recently turned 106. We were cut from strong wood.”
