The black and yellow bring a big name to their team of club representatives-but he doesn’t come from football.
Borussia Dortmund has for the first time committed a brand ambassador outside of football with Timo Boll. The 44-year-old former table tennis professional, seven-time Olympic participants and confessing BVB fan is said to help especially to expand the presence on the Asian market. The collaboration was announced on the sidelines of the season opening before the game against Juventus Turin on Sunday.
“Football is very, very popular in China, but BVB, I think, can go a step further and I will do my best,” said Boll, who enjoys cult status in Asia and finished his active career a few months ago. At his own request, he will also do an internship several weeks at the club to get to know the structures and work areas in Dortmund and abroad.
Boll had already emphasized in March how much a task with his favorite club would irritate him. At that time he said: “The BVB is my heart’s club next to the other Borussia from Düsseldorf. I played there for 17 years, that has become my second home.”
So far, the BVB has only been on brand ambassadors on former club sizes from football. Karl-Heinz Riedle, Jörg Heinrich, Roman Weidenfeller and Patrick Owomoyela are currently working for the association.
