Even after the break, Telstar was not afraid to keep playing football. It was striking how often Telstar managed to find the space between the lines and behind Ajax’s defense. Devon Koswal was almost accurate from a corner kick and Zonneveld tried it with a shot in the short corner. “We have created enough opportunities,” says trainer Anthony Correia.

It was significant that Telstar could be found more often for the hostile goal than Ajax. Correia looks back with his head held high: “I don’t know if we really have roared like lions, but I think we have shown as a team what we are capable of.”

Held

Despite the hopeful game, De Witte Lions were empty -handed. Eight minutes before the end, Weghorst headed the 2-0 for Ajax against the ropes. With the head held high, Telstar has become acquainted with the Eredivisie after 47 years.

This Friday Telstar will play at home against PEC Zwolle. The competition starts at 8 p.m. and can be followed live via the NH Sport radio broadcast.
