On average young and in most cases a newcomer. These are the candidates for the parliamentary elections that the Pro-European Party Volt presented to its members this Saturday. The top of the list is not new: party leader Laurens Dassen and Marieke Koekkoek, who are already forming the two -man fraction, are number one and two.
According to Volt, the candidates are people from all over society, who want to work “to a Netherlands that is green, social and European”. The average age of the candidates is 37 years. Number six, Laura Harks, is the youngest of the first ten candidates. The current policy officer at the Ministry of Justice and Security is 27 years old.
Lawyer Jeroen Princen is one of the oldest candidates. The 59-year-old Schiedammer is a lawyer (and partner) at the DVDW law firm and regularly acted as curator at bankrupt companies. The number five on the list was a member of the VVD, but according to Volt he saw this party “becoming more and more right and became more and more progressive.”
Volt scored two to a maximum of four seats at the last poll on 30 July
The chance that the 27-year-old Harks will end up in the Lower House at the end of October is not that great at the moment. Volt scored two to a maximum of four seats at the last poll on 30 July. Koekkoek proved that surprises were not excluded in 2021 at Volt. As number four, she ended up in the group of three people at the time.
That jump then came at the expense of Ernst Boutkan. He replaced Koekkoek two years ago in the room during her pregnancy. Boutkan is not on the list now. Of the highest ten candidates, it concerns six newcomers.
The place right behind Dassen and Koekkoek is taken by Rens de Boer. This official in the Interior was in position seven in the previous elections. Candidate Inge Vossen – van Beers is currently representing Volt at the provincial level. In addition to being a history teacher, the number eight of the list is also party chairman and member of the States in Noord-Brabant.
At the end of this month, the final list of candidates at the Volt congress will be determined.
