Boxtel examines whether it is necessary to take extra measures at the fair next week. The reason is several upsaws on Monday evening at the fair in Liempde, in the same municipality. Two groups repeatedly looked for confrontation with each other between the attractions. Someone was also mistreated, partly by the same people.

“If extra measures are needed, we will take them,” says Mayor Ronald van Meygaarden on Tuesday.

Van Meygaarden does not have much good to say about what happened on Monday evening. He indicates that he is very shocked. “You do everything to ensure that such a pleasant event like the fair goes as smoothly as possible. Yet you notice every year that tensions can arise.”

Multiple confrontations
The police had to use the baton twice on Monday evening to prevent a massive fight at the fair. A 22-year-old man from the municipality of Boxtel has been arrested.

Later in the evening the police could go to the fair for the third time. Then someone in the neighborhood was mistreated. The same young people were involved.

Fatbike
Young people in Boxtel have been causing nuisance for some time. They show intimidating behavior, scold people and spit them. Since June, a gathering ban has been in Boxtel to guarantee peace in society. Before the fair in Liempde, social media already warned that the youngsters’ youngsters would come to the fair in Liempde, but according to the mayor that is not strange. “Boxtel and Liempde are the same municipality. If there is something fun to do somewhere, you will see that people from both places come there.”

The mayor does not know whether the people who gathered at the fair on Monday at the nuisance ‘Fatbike-Gang’ from Boxtel does not know. “It is often the case that people who behave less well are also on a fatbike.”

Van Meygaarden hopes that the rest of the fair in Liempde will run smoothly. The mayor indicates that he will then evaluate.
